The Wild Sock Chase
By Victoria Wang
First Place, Junior Category

Stacy McLee always would wear the same clothes everyday.
A yellow shirt, deep blue pants and two socks that were gray.

She wore them at home, she wore them at dance and everyday at school.
She wore them for archery, chess and art. Even while in the pool.

But one fateful day she woke to find one grey sock was missing.
She went to ask her mom and dad but found that they were kissing.

Disgusted, she went to look in the trash and saw near her own sidewalk
The garbage man with his feet on the dash was wearing her beloved grey sock.

The chase was on, she ran so fast the garbageman sped away
She tore after him, street by street, yelling, “I need those for ballet!!”

He rounded the corner right past the pool. Stacy’s temper was never hotter.
But he drove the truck with Stacy’s sock straight up and into the water.

Stacy threw off her shirt, her pants and her sneaker revealing a blue bathing suit.
It was a two piece bikini with yellow stripes and she had never looked so cute.

Stacy looked at her suit and made up her mind, “I think I like this style.”
I’ll wear this to school, ballet and chess”, she said with a mischievous smile.

And so she did, she went to class wearing her new bikini.
And when days were cold she put on her head a fluffy, yellow beanie.

The Garbageman on the other hand made it out of the pool.
But to this day he wears that sock, thinking he’s super cool.

He wears it to work everyday, He loves that old grey sock.
And wears it proudly, struts around like a trashy old peacock

Conserve Our Memories
By Duncan Chiu
Second Place, Junior Category

Ancestors bring us life, our past,
Things realized finally, at last
We work so hard on our works of art
It starts to make our families apart

Remember, our family starts our life
Your heart, your brain, your mind
People like your dad, his wife
All of what we can always find

Remind us where our life belongs
The people with us all along

As we pass all through the year
I want you to remember, they’re always here
Brothers and sisters, moms and dads
Conserve our memories, all us lads

The Beautiful Trail
By Chloe Siu
Third Place, Junior Category

The trail
is like a never ending walk.
The trail
is like a slithering snake going up into the trail.

I can feel the forest
Swirling around me.
As I walk deeper into the trail.
It takes me to an imaginary waterfall in my head.

I can taste the water
Flying out of the waterfall
And into my mouth.
It taste fresh,
Like the sweet mountain water.

I can hear woodpeckers
Drilling holes into the wood.
And crows make sound
So they can communicate.

I can smell fresh air
of flowers and trees around me.
I sniff the wild berries in the air
and fresh river water nearby.

That was the feelings I had
deep in the beautiful trail.

The Cello Recital
By Caleb Wang
Honourable Mention, Junior Category

I started
Mistakes in the first measure
The notes were off

My accompanist was a clumpianist
A clown
Not my usual Ms Brenda
Her music sounded weird

Lost my mind
Forgot where to put my fingers
Made more mistakes
Notes became completely off

Felt so embarrassed

Finally got to the fast part
Bow was out of control

The music stopped
My face - red
My back - stiff
Felt like a zombie in my Collingwood cardigan

Took a quick bow
Scurried off the stage

The McCarthy Twins
By Kathy Li
Honourbale Mention, Junior Category

The McCarthy Twins looked alike
Each and every way.
When something happened to one of them
The other felt it someway.

Whenever Kathy stubbed her toe
Or was accidentally hit.
Sadie not only would have a bruise
But she would also feel it.

When Sadie choked on a piece of meat
Or crackers that were dry.
Kathy would also lose her breath
And sometimes almost die.

When Kathy bathes, Sadie gets clean
And haircuts are a snare.
When Sadie goes to the barbershop
Kathy gets shorter hair.

Sadie practices violin
And Kathy learns to play.
One goes to the beach, the other gets tanned
On a sunny Summer day.

If one spills something on their shirt,
the other’s shirt gets stained.
When this happens their classmates laugh
And this causes them much pain.

Life is hard for the McCarthy Twins
Especially when homework is assigned.
Kathy studies but Sadie learns.
So only one can broaden their mind.
