The Little Bear
By Amaer Dhindsa
First Place, Intermediate Category
Once upon a time, there was a small bear walking to his auntie’s house when suddenly a lion approached him. “Hello little bear, you look very tasty. You’re going to be my lunch today,” said the lion.
“Wait, you’re making a mistake,” said the bear. “I’m really tiny, so I will not fill your tummy. I’m going to my auntie’s house. After a few days I will leave, and then I will be really big.”
“Oh, I’d love to eat you then. That’s a great idea,” said the lion, and he let the bear go to his auntie’s house.
Then the bear ran into another animal. It was a tiger. “You look like a really yummy feast. Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t eat you,” said the tiger.
The bear said, “Would you really want to eat something so little and tiny when I’m going to my auntie’s house? Over there I’m going to have so much food. After a few days I’ll be really big, and then you can eat me.”
“Oh, good choice. I love that idea,” said the tiger, and he let the bear go.
Finally, a leopard stopped the bear in his tracks. Instead of asking why he should let him go, the leopard pounced at the bear, but missed.
“Wait, wait! I’m going to my auntie’s house, and there I’m going to have so much food. After a few days, I’m going to be super big, wait, no, I’ll be humongous and yummy to eat, right now I won’t even fill your tummy,” said the bear.
The leopard said, “Okay, fine. I guess I can stay hungry for a bit,” and he let the little bear go to his auntie’s house.
When the bear reached his auntie’s house, he ate a lot of food, and after a few days he became so big — bigger than those three animals combined. When they met him again, the bear said, “You three look like yummy treats.”
The lion, tiger, and leopard all ran away, and the bear lived happily ever after.
The Big, Good Wolf
By Gray Dickson
Second Place, Intermediate Category
Once upon a time a mommy pig kicked her kids out of the house and once they were on their own, they lost all moral direction. The first pig, named Wolfery, did not feel like a pig but more like a wolf, so he got a house in the city. The second pig, named Pig Rug, became a YouTube creator. The third pig was Pig Von, who became a gangster thief.
Meanwhile, a former big bad wolf named Steve really loved his grandma, and she told him that his old friends the pigs were up to no good. Worried, the big (but not so bad) wolf went to Wolfery’s house and said “Let me in, why are you stealing?”
Wolfery, frightened, said “Nothing! I did nothing! It was Pig Von!”
“Really? Okay," said Steve, who had mixed up his pigs. He left and moved on to Pig Rug’s house. He had mixed up again, and thought he was at Pig Von’s. He said, “Let me in, why are you stealing?” Pig Rug answered, and when Steve realized it was him, he shamed him for being toxic online and made him do community service. Once Pig Rug finished, he said he felt guilty, and apologized.
But Steve had meant to see Pig Von. “Where does Pig Von live?” asked Steve.
“He lives in an apartment on the other side of town.”
So Steve went to Pig Von’s house and said, “Let me in, why are you stealing?” But there was no answer. He knocked. But there was no answer. So Steve ran as fast as he could and smashed through the door. He found Pig Von asleep in his room, and yelled, "Wake up!!!!” Pig Von began to beat Steve with his pillow.
Steve yelled, “Calm down! I am only here to tell you to return all the stolen goods.”
“Just say that in the first place, BRO!”
So Pig Von returned all his stolen goods and got a few spanks from grandma but he turned out okay. So all the pigs and the wolf became great friends again and would hang out everyday after work.
Tommy the Turtle

Where am I? All I remember is having fun with my friends and suddenly I’m here. This place is weird, there’s food scattered all over the ground and there’s a pond and a dome. There are a bunch of strange monsters staring at me. Bright lights are flashing from the little rectangles they are holding. I look to my right and there’s a giant cat with lots of fur! I look to my left and there’s a strange creature with a very long neck! Out of nowhere, one of the scary monsters comes into my enclosure and hands me a piece of green leaf. I look around, trying to escape, but all around me are bars that I cannot go through and the door that the monster came from is closed.
I wish I was with my friends right now. I am all alone in this giant enclosure. My home was so cozy and I had so much fun with my friends everyday, and now I have no one here.
“Is anyone there?” No one replies. Oh I know! Maybe I’ll make a new friend out of this green leaf. I make a turtle out of it, and I say, “hi!” But the leaf turtle doesn’t reply. “It’s just not the same as being back at my own pond.”
When the sun sets and everyone is sleeping the scary creature comes back in. I read his nametag and it says ‘Zookeeper’. I try to make friends with this zookeeper, so I give him my piece of lettuce to share. He stares at me for a few seconds, and cleans the pond. I try to talk to him.
“Hello, who are you?” The zookeeper chuckles a bit and carries on cleaning. I watch the zookeeper until he leaves my enclosure.
I carefully look around again, and look at the strange creature with the very long neck in the enclosure next to me.
I then asked him, “Hello? Who are you?”
The animal turns around, looks me in the eye and replies, “Hiii there! Oh you’re new here.” He responds.
I say, “where am I?”
“You’re in a zoo!” He replies. “A place where humans take care of you, and you don’t have to do anything!”
“Are those monsters humans?” I ask.
“They sure are,” the long neck creature says. “I’m Gerald, a giraffe. And over there that giant cat is my friend Leo the Lion. I’ve been in this zoo for around ten years now.”
“Well I’m Tommy and I’m a turtle. Am I going to be here for ten years too?” I scaredly ask.
“Maybe more!” he responds “But dont worry we'll be here together. Hey Leo, come say hi to our new friend.”
“ Hi Tommy!” Leo says.
“Hi Leo! How long have you been here for?” I ask.
“A long time. How did you end up here?”
“I was having so much fun at my pond, until some monster came close to me and put me in a cage. I fell asleep and when I woke up, I magically appeared in this weird enclosure.” I replied.
Gerald yawns and says, “Speaking of sleep, I think we should all go to bed.” I agree. And then the next day, I asked Gerald and Leo to be my friends.
Leo says, “We’ll definitely be your friends.” I ended up living happily ever after at the zoo with Gerald and Leo.
However, one day I woke up to see five other turtles in front of me. They looked really familiar like my friends and family at home. Until I realized they were my friends and family!
The End
The Slippery Sandwich Cookie Man
By Charlie Huang
Honourable Mention, Intermediate Category
Once upon a time, a kid was stacking Oreo cookies, eating the cookie part and combining the fillings into one, gigantically thick Oreo cookie. Through the magic of folk tales, the cookie sprang into life, and started running around.
The kid tried to grab him, but the cookie cream oozed out and lubricated his arms, making the cookie as impossible to catch as a greased pig.
The Sandwich Cookie Man yelled, “Greasy, creamy cream all over your hand! You can’t grab me, I’m the Sandwich Cookie Man!”
He ran to the next room, where the little sister tried to catch him, but she too got slathered with cookie cream and was too slippery to catch him. The Cookie Man once again yelled, “Greasy, creamy cream all over your hand! You can’t grab me, I’m the Sandwich Cookie Man!”
The Cookie Man next faced off against the family dog, who managed to get him into his mouth, but when he chomped down, the Sandwich Cookie Man oozed greasy cookie cream into the dog’s mouth and squirted free.
“Greasy, creamy cream all over your hand! You can’t grab me, I’m the Sandwich Cookie Man!”
The neighbourhood got involved, and posters went up: “Wanted! The Sandwich Cookie Man!” Everyone had flashlights and were searching everywhere for the Cookie Man, but he managed to elude their dragnet and escape.
Some say he now works at McDonalds on the fryers, some say he lives on the beach in Hawaii, but if you ask me, nobody really knows.
The End
The Magnificent Mango
By Felix Qu
Honourable Mention, Intermediate Category
Once upon a time, a koala named Bobby climbed a tree to sleep. But then, he saw a huge mango hanging off a branch. Bobby’s mouth watered, and he climbed as fast as his little legs could go. (climb tree) All of a sudden, a fat monkey appeared and yelled, “AHHHHH!” Scared, Bobby freaked out and jumped down. The koala yelled as loud as he could at the monkey, “Hey, that’s not very nice.”
The fat monkey laughed and said, “ I am the king of this tree. I own it.” Bobby, confused and in disbelief, decided to pull his trick to terrify the monkey.
The monkey looked down from the tree and was surprised to see Bobby gone. Nervous, he ran around the tree to make sure no one else was climbing, so the mango would grow as big as it could before he ate it. (running and confused) But he was unaware that Bobby was following right behind him. When the monkey was wandering around the tree, Bobby grabbed the mango, jumped down, and ran away. The monkey turned around and saw Bobby disappear with the gigantic mango.
The monkey ran as hard as he could and shouted, “You stop this right now!” (hold up palm of hand) Bobby looked back and smiled vengefully at the monkey. (evil smile) The monkey didn’t look where he was running and fell right into the koala’s trap. Luckily, Doctor Jumpy, a kangaroo the monkey was friends with, tried to help him out of the hole. (pulling, then falling) But ended up falling into the trap as well, leaving Bobby with a delicious mango to munch on.
